Lookahead just turned 8. For half that time we’ve been a Pledge 1% company supporting SANE Australia.
Pledge 1% is a global movement of founders who pledge to give 1% of profit, product, time, equity. Scott Farquhar is one of the co-founders of the movement and it was great to see him talk this week.
If Pledge 1% was around in 2012 I’d have signed up on day one. It’s something I hope every founder does. The framework they’ve set makes it easy to give consistently to a cause. Over the years it really adds up.
Deciding to make the pledge was easy but finding the right charity was not. After a lengthy search we landed on SANE Australia who are a mental health charity. They support Australians with a complex mental illness, and the folks close to them. They’re tackling a big problem and are using technology to solve that problem. For years they’ve run the Lived Experience Forum for people with a complex mental health issue. Alongside that is the Friends, Family & Carers Forum. Also recently they launched a suicide prevention campaign “better off with you”.
