457 Visa superseded by the new 482 Visa
Jump to:
Last month saw the 457 Temporary Work Skilled Visa replaced by the new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) subclass 482 Visa. The requirements for the new visa have changed significantly and it would be advisable to speak to a professional if you are currently on a 457 visa or looking to apply for the new 482 visa. The TSS visa has been separated into three pathways including:
The short term stream;
The long term stream; and
The Labour Agreements stream.
Under the new TSS visa, the length of your visa may be determined by your occupational classification and your pathway to permanent residency may be impacted by this. The TSS visa also requires for applicants to have 2 years employment experience in addition to satisfying the minimum skill requirements.

Here at Lookahead we have seen a slowdown of companies sponsoring as they wait for the changes to be finalised, but we’re hopeful that will change once things are settled.
We highly recommend speaking to a professional if you are uncertain about the changes surrounding the new visa.
