If someone you know is looking to hire or be hired, please think of us.

We will take good care of anyone you refer. We can answer questions they have about the market or talk through ways to optimise their hiring process. We can even introduce them to other specialist recruiters if their skills are not in areas we know extremely well. So if you're unsure, refer them anyway.

Successful referrals are rewarded with your choice of a gift voucher, donation to charity or community event sponsorship to the value of $1,000. (Eligible three months after successful placement. Referral must be to a client or candidate we are not currently working with.)

Handing over the reins

Tuesday marked the last time I will organise and MC the Android meetup in Sydney.

4.5 years ago, the Android community was small, and met sporadically through the year so Martin Kelly and I volunteered to organise something more regularly. We had ~15 people at the first meetup in a dark corner of the King Street Brewhouse. We’ve come a long way since then, and now regularly see over 100 people sign up to attend, and regular sponsorship from Atlassian and JetBrains (+Lookahead Search).

A couple of years into my tenure as organiser, Martin moved to Ireland and Zarah Dominguez started to help me. Through multiple brainstorming sessions (and a few helpful tips from our favourite meetups, like SydCSS) we made some changes to make our community even more inviting, especially for new people. Presentations are now timed, prompting speakers to better prepare their talks. Speakers are introduced with interesting detail and question time is short. We also changed the introduction section so new people can meet the community, without the fear of public speaking.

Through a change in organiser in 2015, we implemented some new ideas that helped build our community even further. Now it’s time to hand over the reins again. Zarah is going to continue running the meetup, with help from Andras Nemeth (who has been helping behind the scenes for the past year and a bit). I look forward to seeing how our Android community changes over the next 4.5 years.
