Friday 30th November was the first ever Code Heart Design conference - a mini-conf bringing together designers, design system lovers and front-end developers. Lookahead were given the pleasure of being one of the sponsors of the event and I happily volunteered to go!

Keynote speaker Sharon Steed taught us all about empathy - how it’s not a feeling but a choice that requires action and continual effort. And how empathy shapes a company’s culture more than any other core value.
Our keynote speaker @sharonsteed is taking the stage to talk about Empathy, using her own story as a stutterer to highlight how we can better connect with people.#chd18 pic.twitter.com/clwlNqdmC3

Most of the talks were centred on where design meets code. There were some interesting demos and talks on how tooling for designers is moving beyond static images and utilising code and real data to reduce handover friction from designers to developers.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was Russ Weakley’s talk on accessibility. He passed on a lot of easy to implement tips to improve accessibility and entertained us all while doing so.
The conference was well organised, the people were friendly & welcoming, the food was delicious and we all came home with some great swag!
Still can’t get over the swag quality at #CHD18. I actually have stuff that’s not stickers which I find really useful and want to keep. Doesn’t come close to the quality of the conference though. Kudos @CodeHeartDesign pic.twitter.com/qKkoPv4QTS

I can’t think of anything that could’ve been done better and considering this was their first conference that’s an awesome achievement! Looking forward to next year’s and I hope to see you there!
