Australia is an amazing place to call home. We have so much to celebrate about our nation, and it’s important that we acknowledge our achievements and celebrate as a nation. However, out of love and respect for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community, we here at Lookahead Search believe that January 26th is not the right date.

For this reason, Lookahead Search has decided to change the date for ourselves, giving everyone on the team the opportunity to work through Australia Day in lieu of celebrating the day on a different date.

For a lot of the population, January 26th might mark the day of the arrival of the First Fleet, but for our Indigenous communities, it marks the beginning of invasion, dispossession and genocide for their people and is a day of mourning and great sadness that continues today.

If we truly wish to celebrate everything that is great about this nation, then surely it needs to be a day that includes ALL Australians, not one that excludes anyone.

Let’s celebrate Australia, but on a different day.

If you or your employer would like more information on what you can do to change the day, visit changeitourselves.com.au
