Senior Ruby Developer | Melbourne

Details (ARCHIVED)

Our client has a huge customer base in the travel industry. They are a constantly expanding team and currently are in need of an experienced software engineer. Great care is taken in nurturing the design process. Engineers live close to the business problem, and play a large part in personally shaping the success of the product, working with both external customers as well as other internal teams within the business.

They are an equal opportunity employer who puts tremendous value on diversity. They do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

The platform is an event-driven, service-oriented architecture hosted in AWS. Everything is written primarily in Ruby, but the team has recently been up-skilling with Clojure, and will most be likely to continue to reimplement parts of the app with it.

You've got plenty of commercial experience with a strong working knowledge of software design patterns and SOLID (or similar) principles to create well designed software - you like to focus more on the 'why' than the 'how' and you see rigorous code testing as an essential part of the dev process. Commercial experience in Clojure isn't a must, however you'll be interacting with it a lot, so a desire to learn more about it is. While your main strength is on the back-end, you're comfortable enough with JavaScript in order to help get the work done. You thrive on team interaction and collaboration, and are always looking to give input - you're not the kind of developer who likes to just sit alone at their desk with their headphones on all day bashing out code; you have opinions on things and you're not afraid to share them.

  • Highly competitive salary package
  • Convenient Melbourne inner-city location
  • Working in a culture of experimentation, knowledge-sharing and continual improvement
  • Being part of a passionate, supportive and respective cross-functional team that values constant learning
  • Structured career progression
  • Personal training budget
  • Regular hack days
  • Generous travel-related perks (airlines and hotels)
Send an email with your resume, website, Github account, links to apps or anything else you're proud of. At that point I'll tell you more about the role and we can decide if there's a fit. Even if this role isn't quite right for you but you are passionate about all things Ruby, I would still love to hear from you.
