Director of Engineering, Shoes of Prey | Santa Monica, California
Details (ARCHIVED)The Role
We've got an amazing and diverse seven-person engineering team that handles all the parts of our platform from the web shoe configurator, through to e-commerce and ERP integration. As the Director of Engineering, you will be managing this wonderful team and helping them achieve even more success by providing them with guidance, mentoring and technical direction.
To be successful in this role, we'll be looking to you to take the lead on the following:
- Ensuring the engineering team is focused on making the biggest impact they can.
- Mentoring and giving guidance on how individual team members should attack unfamiliar problems.
- Ensuring the company has clarity about what the software engineers are working on and why.
- Making a significant contribution to our codebase by ensuring we're adopting best-practices while also writing meaningful code yourself.
- Running regular internal hackathons to experiment with new technology.
While the ability to write excellent code is important, it's not what we care most about. We've worked hard to build an engineering team we love, and it's important that you love them too. This means having regular one-on-ones with each member of the team, running team meetings, and delivering regular performance reviews.
Communication is crucial in our day-to-day work and we'll entrust you with jumping into a meeting with the board of directors to talk succinctly and confidently about our technical strategy.
You should have significant experience with the following technologies, or their equivalents:
- Amazon EC2
- Google AppEngine
The following interests/skills are beneficial, but not mandatory:
- user experience design / research
- A/B testing
- 3D rendering / CAD
- machine learning
- Android / iOS development
- computer vision
- electrical engineering / robotics
Our engineering team is based in beautiful Santa Monica, California, just two blocks from the beach. Your exact package will be tailored to your individual circumstances but you can expect an attractive salary package which includes equity and relocation coverage.
Founded by two ex-Googlers and an advertising exec in 2009, the company has experienced very strong growth each year. We've been backed by a number of influential Silicon-Valley investors and Nordstrom Inc., raising over $24m to date. It's our view that mass customisation, coupled with on-demand production, is the future of retail. With 6 years of success behind us, we're in the box seat to make this happen and build a billion dollar company. We'd love for you to come and join us!
